Mission

Cereals are the most important group among crop plants used for human nutrition. Successful farming is limited by a whole range of diseases the majority of which are caused by fungal plant pathogens. Facing this major problem, the rice-barley-lab has devoted it´s research work to an in depth analyses of mechanisms causing disease of plant. At the end of the day we aimed in providing tools to create improved crop plants which are able to withstand diseases and finally will help feeding a growing human population.

Research at the RiBa-Lab focuses on fungal plant pathogens which cause economically important diseases on rice, barley and soybean, respectively.
